Esders took chance well - Strachan

26th March 2008
Excel Hull Stingrays coach Rick Strachan felt youngster Lee Esders deserved his most improved player of the year award in his debut season in the bmibaby Elite League.

The 19-year-old forward has made big strides since swapping life in the English National League North for the top-flight last summer, posting three goals and three assists in 62 games.

Strachan said: "He is a young kid who took his chance well. He is physical for a little guy and plays like most young players do - at 110mph.

"He got better and better throughout the year and you cannot fault his effort."
