Stingrays bow out on high

24th March 2008
Player of the season Jake Riddle netted a hat-trick as Excel Hull Stingrays rounded off their bmibaby Elite League campaign with a 6-2 win over Manchester Phoenix at Hull Arena.

Bryce Thoma (powerplay) and Riddle put Stingrays 2-0 ahead inside six minutes, Simon Mangos cut the deficit only for Luke Boothroyd to restore

the two-goal advantage. Lee Esders (Stingrays) and Brett Cloutier (Phoenix) were ejected in the second period following a melee, Joe Tallari pulled another back for the visitors but Dave Phillips and Riddle (2) sealed a fourth successive home win.

Strachan said: "It was end to end and the fans loved it. There was some great passing, some great goals, some huge blunders – an entertaining game all round.

"The last thought in your mind is the last game you play so it was good to see the guys go out, play hard, give it their all and entertain the fans. The guys put on a show."
