Riddle named player of year

21st March 2008
American forward Jake Riddle has been named Excel Hull Stingrays' player of the season.

Riddle also scooped the forward of the year award and was voted the fans' favourite. David Phillips picked up the defenceman of the year accolade and Lee Esders received the most improved trophy.

Coach Rick Strachan said: "Jake went through a dry spell just before Christmas but he turned it around after his hat-trick in the Knockout Cup against Manchester early in the new year.

"He played really well on the line with Brad Patterson and Slava Koulikov and when they were out for the season we put him with Rob Rankin and Jeff Glowa and that line got a lot of goals for us. Jake is big, physical and strong on the puck and does what he is good at and that is driving the net."
