In-form Rankin hails line-mates

17th March 2008
Rob Rankin was reluctant to take all the credit after his hat-trick steered Excel Hull Stingrays to a 5-3 win over Cardiff Devils at Hull Arena in the bmibaby Elite League.

The American forward took his tally to six goals in four games - and 24 for the season - while defencemen Bryce Thoma and Jani Virtanen were also on target.

Rankin said: "It's always nice to score goals. Our line played really well. I went through a dry spell for about 10-15 games but ever since Jake Riddle came on the line we have gelled really well together. What would have happened if we had started out together on a line this year?

"Last year I didn't break the 20-goal mark so that was one of my goals at the start of the season. It's nice to finally reach that but I wouldn't have done that without the help of my line-mates and the team. I've played alongside Jeff Glowa all season and I've not had a better centerman."
