Five-star Stingrays keep play-off hopes alive

8th March 2008
Rob Rankin and James Knight scored twice as Excel Hull Stingrays kept alive their bmibaby Elite League play-off hopes with a 5-2 win over Edinburgh Capitals at Hull Arena.

Ryan Crane netted the only goal of the first period on the powerplay for Capitals but Rankin levelled before two powerplay markers from Knight put Stingrays in the driving seat.

Rankin's second, also on the powerplay, stretched Stingrays' lead, Crane (powerplay) pulled one back for Edinburgh before Jeff Glowa added a fifth with 113 seconds left.

Coach Rick Strachan said: "That is five points out of six for us now and that has helped put pressure on the teams around us.

"We played extremely well. We worked hard and stuck together but we have to move on now and focus on Newcastle tomorrow."
