Rankin ready for rest

6th March 2008
Excel Hull Stingrays forward Rob Rankin cannot wait to give his battered body a rest after a trying season - but has vowed to give 100% for the remaining five games.

The American, 25, is Stingrays' second leading point-scorer this season, his first in the bmibaby Elite League, with 18 goals and 27 assists in 56 games.

Stingrays have been short-benched for most of the campaign and have iced a full line-up just twice due to a series of injuries.

Defeat to Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday at Hull Arena (5.30pm face-off) would finally end Stingrays' slim hopes of reaching the play-offs.
Rankin said: "It's been a tough year. We have five games left and we have to worry about the off-season when the games are done.

"You don't just show up and not compete. Hopefully the guys in the locker room have enough pride as a team for Hull, the owners, the coach and the fans to give it our all. Fans pay good money and have been supporting us all year and we have to give them the effort they deserve.

"My body has been taking a beating for the last few weeks so it will be nice to relax, head home and see my friends and family."
