Strachan pleased with effort

2nd March 2008
Coach Rick Strachan could not fault the effort of his Excel Hull Stingrays players after they lost 3-2 to Cardiff Devils on penalty shots in the bmibaby Elite League at Hull Arena.

Sergiy Rublivsky (powerplay) and Rob Rankin twice put Stingrays ahead but Max Birbraer ad Brad Voth levelled for Devils, who had defenceman Mike Garrow ejected in the 47th minute for abuse of official.

After overtime failed to separate the sides, Devils earned the extra point as Sylvain Deschatelets netted the only penalty shot

Strachan said: "I was hoping we would score in overtime because our record on penalty shots in abysmal!

"The guys competed for 65 minutes, we had some glorious chances to score in overtime but it wasn't to be."

Stingrays are back in action on Wednesday when Basingstoke Bison visit Hull Arena (7.30pm face-off).
