Pack pleased with changes

30th April 2008
Excel Hull Stingrays owner Mike Pack believes the new rule changes for the 2008/09 bmibaby Elite League campaign should ensure a more competitive product.

The top four teams in last season's standings - Coventry Blaze, Sheffield Steelers, Nottingham Panthers and Belfast Giants - will continue to ice with a maximum of 10 International Transfer Card players while the six remaining clubs, including Hull, will be allowed 11.

Pack said: "There was recognition the wage cap was not strictly adhered too last season and one of the consequences was the competition left some teams at an unfair disadvantage. The rule change will help the teams who are clearly not in the market for the higher-rated British players and it allows teams like ourselves to dip into the bigger market for that 11th import.

"At the same time teams like Hull will try to work with the young British players to ensure this situation is not necessary in the future."
