MEET THE STINGRAYS - Nikolai Ladygin
By Mark Bateman

15th November 2007
The Ukrainian Defenceman talks about last season. How he thinks he and the team are coping with injuries and inconsistent form and on Hull's chances of making the Play-Offs.

Nikolai Ladygin arrived at Hull Arena as a relatively unknown talent part way through last season and went on to make a big impact at the Stingrays. So much so that Coach Rick Strachan made him his first signing of this summer.

The 6" 4 inch D-man plays a no nonsense style of game on the blue line and as a result of his effective displays he was voted fans defenceman for the 2006/07 season something Ladygin is particularly proud of.

"I was very happy that the fans chose me and I am grateful. It means something to me that my work is appreciated."

This season he has tallied up more than his fair share of ice time as the club continues to struggle with a lengthy injury list. However the former Kiev player remains up beat about the situation.

"Yeah there has been lots of ice time for me and sometimes I am tired. But there is nothing you can do about it. Just play, keep going and stay in shape."

The Stingrays shortage of bodies has played a big part in the clubs form. They have lost there last eight games when this programme went to print. But Ladygin believes the club have done well so far and will make the Play-Offs in April.

"I think we are pretty good we've had some good games and only had one bad weekend. But that's ok, sometimes it happens. We have a good chance, we are in the middle of the table so I think if we keep going we'll make it."
