Cardiff Devils 4 Hull Stingrays 1
Devils just keep on winning and ensured everyone connected with the club went into Christmas in a happy mood as league victory number twelve in a row (thirteen in all comps.) was achieved against Stingrays at the Bay but the visitors certainly did not make it easy, despite their late arrival delaying the face-off more than half an hour.
The opening session amazingly saw the visitors end up leading by 1-0, having been outshot by no fewer than 26 to 2 but with goaltender Christian Boucher having one of those nights it was Konstantin Kalmikov’s shorthanded strike at 5.00 that separated the sides.
Stingrays held that lead until deep into the second session but when Devils player/coach Gerad Adams tied it on the powerplay at 35.58 a weight seemed lifted off his side and they were soon ahead when Jon Pelle fired home at 37.27 again on the powerplay.
Devils were now in no mood to slacken off and shorthanded, Scott Matzka made it 3-1 at 45.20 and for a third time on the powerplay it was Pelle with his second of the game at 47.37 who scored what turned out to be the final goal of the night, giving his side the points that take them into second spot in the standings.
